Let’s face it, the past two years have been extremely unpredictable. We entered the year 2020 hoping that the pandemic ends with the year, however, 2021 proved that this was only the beginning. In addition to dealing with the pandemic itself, we discover new variants entering into 2022.
At this point we are all probably thinking the same thing, when will this all end? When do we go back to our lives? Is there even a point to making goals right now with everything being so unpredictable?
My answer to you is Yes!
Here’s why:
Some of you shared how worried you were about committing to any plans, or anything in general, which is understandable. With the current unpredictabilities that we are adapting to, it can be challenging to make life goals and decisions without knowing what to expect.
Some may find themselves languishing through this phase of their life. Languishing was introduced by Corey Keyes and forwarded by Adam Grant who described it as a sense of stagnation and emptiness, feeling somewhat joyless and aimless. It feels as if you are going through the motion, looking at your life through a foggy lens.
Hear this, know that you are not alone in this feeling and there are others who feel the same, and it is ok to be in this space at this moment. However, entering into a new year is the best time to shake off some of last year’s issues weighing you down.
Here are a few tips on how to move past this season of going through the motions and start being hopeful for the future again.
Re-envision
Envision the possibilities that could be achieved in spite of the pandemic. See the person you are now as an evolved, mature, and wiser you, and embrace the person you are becoming. Seek out initiatives you know little about by using your resources and becoming more inquisitive.
Reassess
Reassess your mindset and how you view obstacles. Use mindfulness tools to help you stay grounded and bring you back to your present self.
Celebrate
Acknowledge and reward yourself when you have an achievement, no matter how small or big. Share news that is fun to you, with your friends, family, or co-workers in a visible and positive way.
Visualize
It’s easy to think about the past and the things we missed. However, time changes and grows us, therefore, it’s important to be present in the current moment that we are living and also see our lives striving beyond this point.
Finally, consider how to make the greatest impact this year and beyond and step into your future!
